Sperm donation is usually used as a last resort when all other methods of sperm retrieval have failed.

Scenarios where sperm donation is used:

  1. Patients with testicular failure
  2. Patients who underwent radiotherapy for cancer.
  3. Azoospermia( no sperm in the semen or testicular biopsy)
  4. Repeated IVF failures with own sperm
  5. High chances of chromosomal abnormalities in babies

We insist that all the donors are healthy, non-smoking males between the ages of 18 – 35 years. Traditionally, we use only anonymous sperm donors through registered donor banks. You can also use a donor of your choice.

Process of a sperm donation cycle:

  1. Appropriate consents are signed by all parties
  2. The recipient is stimulated with gonadotropins to develop multiple eggs.
  3. Once several follicles are matured , all the eggs are collected.

After fertilization of the eggs with the donor sperm the embryos are incubated for either 3 or 5 days depending on the type of transfer.

Concurrently , the recipient woman is placed on medication to stimulate a healthy uterine lining.

Once the endometrium (uterine lining) is ready with “triple lining” , the Embryo transfer process is initiated.

This process of timing the ICSI / IVF , developing the uterine lining in the recipient and embryo development in the lab requires sufficient skill and experience for a successful implantation.
